9 Corps (not IX Corps), also known as Rising Star Corps, was raised in 2005 and is the Indian Army's youngest corps[1] It is based at Yol cantonment in Kangra Valley, 10 km southeast of Dharamsala in Himachal Pradesh. It was raised on 1 September 2005 by splitting the southern formations of Nagrota-based XVI ‘White Knight’ Corps of the Udhampur-based Northern Command.]].[2] It is a part of Army’s Chandimandir-based Western Command.[3] Its correct name is written as 9 Corps and not IX Corps.
Currently, the corps is headed by Lieutenant General A.K. Choudhary [4]who has been transferred as DG Military Operations in January 2012.
